Merengue Upset

Liga EspañolaThis past fixture in the Spanish Liga saw Real Madrid squaring off against Barcelona. Barcelona has been showing off a stupendous game, in addition to the spectacle produced by the players when called on to deliver. On the other hand, Real Madrid came on to the field hoping to gain some points off of the Liga's leader and in this fashion apply a little pressure during the Liga's last four fixtures.

The soccer world was paralyzed and anxious to see how this would play out. Real Madrid gifted Barcelona with the ball in the first minutes, but in a spectacular play helped by their rival's distractedness, Real scored thanks to Higuain. This sparked the expected reaction from coach Guardiola's Barcelona, and his boys made up for lost time scoring twice in rapid succession via Messi and Henry. The blue and scarlet orchestra began its soccer concert before a perplexed Madrid unable to find the ball no matter how hard it tried. Again Henry scored raising the tally to 3-1 against their eternal rival; Madrid scoring via Torres was useless, especially since he was playing a particularly ineffective defensive game, giving up yardage to Henry who was playing as if alone on the left side of the field. The match went on to goals from the Barcelona captain, Puyol, once again from Messi and sealing the defeat, from Pique. Madrid could not believe it, and insults flew from the fans, along with a few scattered accolades for the visiting team.

By the end of the match it was all Barcelona fans celebrating and their team embraced by a victory, one that has been deemed the most painful in the history of Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu stadium. The fans' complaints have been loud, and there are already rumors of a purge in the Madrid team, with only Raul, Casillas and Higuain asked to remain. The rest of the team awaits the decision of Florentino Perez, who is expected to be named the new President, and who is said to have all but signed up Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, to build up a Super Madrid that might again win tournaments and deserve accolades for great plays.
